Ozmodchips went to court Friday in Austraila and lost the battle so the ban on the PS jailbreak will be made permanent. This is a big blow to Ozmodchips as they were praying that the ban would be lifted.
Gamers worldwide are disappointed at the decision of the Austraila court, they were also praying that the ban would be lifted. Sony, on the other hand, is very pleased with the decision. Sony has had to learn the hard way that their products are prone to hacks.
What the OzModChips did was allow the gamer to bypass security and download games to the hard drive. This circumvented protocols in place to ensure that people didn’t share or illegally download games.
By saving games directly to the hard drive, someone could purchase a game and using the device copy it to an infinite number of devices. This would significantly impact profit.

Diaspora, the Anti-Facebook is set to debut September 15 according to reports. The site calls itself “privacy aware†and “self-controlled.â€Â The site will likely gain popularity with those who are weary of Facebook’s lack of privacy. (And blatant disregard for privacy concerns by the site’s leader.)
The founders of Diaspora, the Anti-Facebook tried to raise $10,000 to launch the site. When they looked for funding, they received over $200,000 from 6,500 different people.
The site will be open-source which allows people to see the sites code and modify it.Â
Despite the excitement over the site’s launch, it still faces plenty of hurdles. Facebook is second in traffic only to Google and there are hundreds of millions of users who log on to the site each and every day.
Are you going to join Diaspora, the Anti-Facebook?

Google’s Orkut was an answer to – and never really took off in the US. However, Google’s Orkut was popular in India and Brazil. Unfortunately for the social networking site, Facebook traffic in India has now surpassed that of Google’s baby.
Orkut has 19.9 million users in India, and now Facebook’s popularity in the country has leapt by 200% to 20.9 million – dethroning Orkut as the most popular social networking site.
In other Google news, Google voice calls from Gmail was launched, which is a very cool feature. Calls within the US are free, and international rates are very, very low.
Google’s official gmail blog said the following:
Calls to the U.S. and Canada will be free for at least the rest of the year and calls to other countries will be billed at our very low rates. We worked hard to make these rates really cheap (see comparison table) with calls to the U.K., France, Germany, China, Japan—and many more countries—for as little as $0.02 per minute.
However, please note that US calls are free – “at least until the end of the year†which smells to me like a teaser rate. Be prepared for Google to charge for domestic calls in the future, although rates will likely be lower than using a regular landline telephone.
