The Medal of Honor Game by EA has been banned on Military bases due to the fact that a player can play as the Taliban. EA has no comment about the ban but outrage has been building about the game for some time.
None of the games will be sold on any US military bases, the UK has a ban on the game altogether. Game stop who sells the game made this statement “GameStop has agreed out of respect for our past and present men and women in uniform, we will not carry Medal of Honor in any of our AAFES based stores…,â€
It’s not the presence of Taliban that’s contested, it’s the fact that you can have playable characters that are the Taliban.
Why would EA want to do this? Of course, it’s likely that they did it to make the game more realistic, but many service men and women may be offended by this.
So you decide is it right to ban such a game from Military stores? Furthermore, what will happen to a soldier if he or she brings the game on base? I think this controversy is just getting started.

Starcraft skills can earn you honors college credit…if you are a University of Florida Gator.   Imagine being able to play your favorite video game, and use that to help you get to your degree.
An eight week 2 credit hour course called 21st century Skills in StarCraft will be offered at the Gainesville campus. I can’t say that I am all too shocked, considering that there are much easier classes likely offered.
The course’s instructor says:
“With society becoming increasingly technology-based and fast-paced, it is important for professionals to be highly proficient in skills such as critical thinking, problem solving, resource management, and adaptive decision making. These skills are fundamental in Starcraft and therefore make the game a highly effective environment for students to analyze and take action in complex situations.â€
Hmm. Sounds interesting to say the very least. If you were at Florida, would you enroll in the course?
